Poaching from Canoes

On 27th June, Mark Dearman was patrolling Usk Town Water at Llancayo and discovered two individuals spinning from canoes, one a red colour, the other blue. Initially they were secreting themselves beneath overhanging trees but later moved upstream into open water where they continued quite brazenly although unaware of Mark watching them. Mark did not show himself as he had telephoned the NRW 0800 number to be promised a return call imminently. However, despite hanging on for about half an hour, he eventually ran out of time and had to leave with them still performing. As a last throw of the dice he then called at Usk police station but found no one there. Mark has no idea where they got on the river or where they were going to get off. There were no vehicles in the parking places where the anglers park.

This latest incident follows poaching by a group of travellers on Sunday evening last, witnessed and reported by Tom Hannon and that was the third occasion this season he has found them on the Llancayo bank. Usk police have shown interest in Sunday evenings affair as it coincided with a spate of reported thefts in the Usk area over the weekend. They would welcome reports with details of any suspicious looking vehicles.’

Please be vigilant and report any similar incidents if you see immediately to the NRW on the Emergency Hotline No: 0800 807060
